One To Beam Up
Guinness here. Groucho asked me to come along for a little walk with him--and the sky cracked open. It was the Mother Ship coming for Groucho. Groucho said he was sent here 3 years ago on a peace-keeping mission. He was given an assignment to integrate and observe an Earthling family. His Superiors are most happy with his work and have summoned him home.
I do not know what life will be like now without his absurd adventures and quirky antics. But Groucho said he would never be too far away... and if ever we saw a star shooting across the sky, it is just him in his spaceship-- spreading his message of love and laughter on some new galactic adventure.
Just before he was beamed up to the Bridge, Groucho looked back at me with a tear on his strange, sweet face. He bid me farewell and said I was the best friend he ever had. And so we keep him with us...embedded forever deep within our hearts and memories.
Safe travels, you dear little rascal...safe travels.

That Rainbow Bridge must be pretty awesome; seems to be gathering many of our dearest. Looking forward to the beautiful rays that Groucho and his friends send back our way.
ReplyDeleteOh Groucho. I am so very sad for your family. You were one nutty dude. All I ever had to do was look at you to smile. Safe journey.
ReplyDeleteMango Momma

ReplyDeleteRun free.
The Rainbow Bridge just became a lot more colorful which such a terrific character as Groucho. We are so sad to see him make this journey.
ReplyDeleteOnly Groucho would leave us via the Mother Ship! May stars follow in his path.

DeleteI'm so sorry to hear that the Mother Ship came for Groucho. He was the most awesome alien on the internet. He will be deeply missed - and we'll light a candle to help guide his Mother Ship on to his next destination.
ReplyDelete-Dr. Liz and Family
thank you for helping guide Groucho home. there will never be another Groucho--ever ever ever. you are right --he was the most loved and awesome alien on the internet. we will never forget him, the silly little scallywag. We buried him last night and about 100 Canadian geese honked overhead and circled around. Then two gunshots fired from the grape farmer next door (to scare the crows) so it was a stunnng farewell. Groucho would have it no other way.
DeleteGroucho, I haven't been to visit you in a long time but you always brought great insight to earth. We will look up in the sky for a falling star and know you are with the mothership.
ReplyDeleteNorwood
I bet you are hanging big time w/ Mango now. Pawtee on dude.
Thank you for your kind words!
DeleteI'm so sorry - it's so hard to lose a dear pup. We are sending you love and hugs.
ReplyDeleteSam
Groucho, we are glad you had a wonderful family as well as dear friends who clearly loved you. We are sad that you are gone to the Rainbow Bridge because we will no longer be privy to your wonderful adventures and we know your people will miss you terribly. We are glad you experienced love, friendship, a warm hearth, a full bowl and many an adventure, here on earth. You were one of the lucky ones :) You always brought a smile to our faces! Rest in peace dear Groucho. We send your family and friends all our love.
ReplyDeletethe critters in the cottage xo

Deletesadness
ReplyDeleterohan--please come visit us soon? please be in touch!
DeleteOh dear...Groucho summoned back? The Great Hairy One must have been awfully pleased with his work among the aborigines. Maybe he'll have stories to tell after he completes his next assignment.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, we'll miss his humor, his comic demeanor, and his gentleness.
Your buds,
Buster, Bailey, Persephone & Gracie
What sad news! I'm so sorry to hear that one of my favorites has gone...I got smitten with Afgan Hounds when I met this very unique, lovely and funny spirit. Action is on for all the ones who passed before him! Heaven, beware! :)
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sandra with the Labradorks.
I remember when Groucho and his brother were at the dog shelter, the brother got adopted, and Groucho cried night and day until YOU, Janice, took him home with you. He lived with you for a while until your neighbor adopted him. Except for terrible haircuts he had a most wonderful life all because of you and your family. So I am sure he will probably send you another dog sometime, sooner or later! You have such a big heart, dear girl, we are all privileged to know you.
ReplyDeleteJo, Stella and Zkhat
awww--that is sweet, thank you for remembering so much of our special Groucho moments. we certainly do remember all of his mysterious beginings and always have the blog to recap the story. I would encourage anyone who is reading this to hit the "Groucho" label under one of his posts and read his story from beginning to end. I remember how willingly he just hopped into my truck and made himself at home. I will never forget the anticipation I felt as i drove all those 3 hours to Yarmouth to get him. I remember i took the afternoon off work that day to make the journey. i stopped off at home to clean out the truck and make him a bed in the back. groucho did not know where he was going with this new, strange girl, but he seemed to know he was going home!!!! He never fussed or whined the whole way back--he just laid quietly and willingly accepted his faith. Then my best girlfriend fell in love with him at first sight and i remembered being SOOOO relieved that perhaps she would be able to adopt him--of course that is exactly how it worked out... and then all of us were able to keep him in our lives--we all ADORED HIM and he often stayed over night if the DenHaans went away. Everyone in our little town knew Groucho (and the wolfies ofcourse!)... the strange looking dog who seemed to float when he walked. He always seemed to loved me a little extra than everyone else..even though he switched homes--he seemed to know i rescued him. The wolfhounds loved him and he and Guinness had a special friendship. i will never forget the funny, clowny fella.

DeleteWe're missing Groucho. We share your sorrow and feel honored (and humbled) that you shared so much of the joy of his life through this blog.
DeleteBy the way, his funeral service sounds like perfection itself, the honkers all honking goodbye and the neighbor shooting his gun. He would have loved it all, wouldn't he?
ReplyDeleteJo again
yes--i try not to read too much into things but i must say that really was spectacular indeed. Magnificent, magnificent.
DeleteGuinness went down into the hole and started whining and nosing at Groucho . it was sad, but Guinness new Groucho would be sleeping beside Saige. Thank you for your thoughtfulness, friend.
Go boldly where no pup has gone before! *salute*
ReplyDeleteRiley the greyhound
We're sorry mama's health issues have kept us from our normal blog life, and we are devastated to just now learn that Groucho has crossed the Bridge. We will remember him with honor in the October issue of Our Rainbow Friends. Groucho's passing is a huge loss for Blogville, as well as for Guinness and Maggie and you and his family. We're so sorry.
ReplyDeleteJanice, I will always love you for your heart and spirit and your ability to make us fall in love with dogs we have never met and will never meet -- like Groucho. I too remember the saga of Groucho's rescue and your part on it.
ReplyDeleteLoved you Groucho, and I never met you.
Pat
I feel awful that I missed this!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Groucho. He was always one who could put a smile on my face. Such a funny fellow. He will be missed terribly.
I can picture him and Mango making everyone laugh over the rainbow bridge.
Big hugs and giant Dane kisses to all of you!
I am very sorry to hear of your loss.
ReplyDeletewoof - Tucker
