Honey

Zzzzzzz..Guinness here with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head! See? Our honey has arrived...SWEET!

These are our hives! The bee keeper puts them on all our fields, then gives a portion of the honey to us.

Dogs and bees do not mix. And they say BLACK dogs and bees REALLY don't mix, but I am not taking any chances!

The hives are set up very early in the spring. All summer the bees collect nectar. As they travel around they pick up pollen. That pollen rubs other flowers and make everything blossom and grow! Then the bees bring that nectar back to the hives to make the honey!

And look! One year the hives were flooded. But the bees did not mind. They just moved to the "upstairs" of the hive. Bees are hard workers. Colonized bees are "encouraged" to make more than enough honey for their winter stores....the rest is for us!

The honey we get is much better than the honey you buy in stores. Our honey tastes like the red clover on the fields-- and all the sweet grasses, like timothy and melissa.

All the goodness and macronutrients from the wild flowers make their way into the honey. It is very nutritious...and delicious! Pumpkin honey is the absolute tastiest honey...those bees are set on pumpkin patches. YUM!

And here is the Queen Bee. And this is the very spot she will reign over forever. Don't you think this is a perfect resting spot for a Queen?

  7. The beekeepers around here have portable hives that they set up in areas as the trees blossom so they can get the different flavours. There's a tasting place not too far, and it's amazing all the different flavours they have. But we don't have pumpkin! Enjoy the honey.

  8. Yesh, a PURRfect place fur a Queen Bee to watch over her subjects for all time.

We ♥ honey. Momma especially likes Michigan honey 'cause that is where we live. In our garden our momma plants flowers to attract bees and she sits and watches them for hours and hours while we rest on the cool grass.
