Honey's Tea Eggs
Guinness here at the keyboard today. Yesterday my human went to visit our friend Honey the Great Dane and Honey was making Chinese Tea Eggs on her blog! They looked so exquisite that my human came home right after work to make them!
We have never heard of Tea Eggs before. We are not very cultured here in our humble little Valley. We are a simple folk. The closest we have ever been to China is Prince Edward Island. We boil the eggs a few minutes then whack them like this!
Now we add the black tea, soy sauce, and all the spices! Cloves, cinnamon, star anise, orange peel and pepper! The eggs have to simmer in the tea broth for a long time.
And LOOK! Hahaha! Maggi got so tired of waiting she curled up and had a nap! Doesn't she look so sweet!
But the eggs are still not ready. We go for a long walk...
...and we walk some more!
We walk and walk and walk. Perhaps we are walking all the way to China? When my human was a young pup digging in the dirt the grown-ups always said if you keep digging long enough you would dig a hole all the way to China! I wonder... when little Chinese children dig holes in the dirt do their grown ups tell them they will dig a hole to Canada? Now we walk home. It is dark and a thunderstorm is brewing. But that is not all that has been brewing... the eggs have been in the tea for 3 hours! The house smells strange and exotic. It must be what a beautiful Chinese countryside smells like with all the lovely spices.
The power has gone out. The rain storm is torrential. My human peels the eggs. They are beautiful and succulent. All the delicate tastes are blended together in a divine subtleness.
We are suppose to go on an egg hunt. My human wants to see if we can find the eggs quicker than Honey did in her video! Honey is just like us-- "smart like a big dog" as my human Uncle Peter would say.

But now there is thunder and lightening. Everything is dark and spooky! So we are lucky and get the eggs without the hunt. And look! The eggs are so delicious that mine are gone before my human can even take a picture...hehehe. *SMACK*GULP*AHHH*
And now Honey thinks it would be neat for us to show you some ways that we cook eggs in our country. We eat eggs LOTS of different ways, like Scottish Eggs and Dutch Eggs and egg in the hole...so we will have lots to think about! Thank you Honey. We loved the Tea Eggs and can't wait to show you some of our egg dishes...Maritime style!
