Time Waster

Oh hi...it's Guinness.  Come for a walk with me.  I want to tell you something.

It is cold and stark.  Everything seems bleak and still.  But there is a feeling in everyone's heart that Spring is  somehow flirting with us.  There is optimism in the air.  We have made it through.. haven't we?

In a few months these trees will be sprouting little green buds.  And a sweet, subtle smell will fill the forest.

Birds will sing their little songs and awaken Mother Earth from her deep slumber.

yet somehow the rain and the mosquitoes--  the pests and the bug bites have slipped our minds...

And so we start to long for the Summer...

And we wish for lush green grass, and sweet pastures.  The Earth is in her prime and we will be rich with Sunshine and Light.

But we forget that our quite little trails will be full of people and activity again.  Our days of unleashed walks will be more guarded.  And we must drive away in search of solitude.

And so we long for the settling that is Autumn; when the dusk come creeping in quicker each day, and people retreat back into their homes. The trees show off their new fall clothes..until the frost comes and nibbles them away!

So then we dread the coming of winter. Old Man Winter will test our will. And our hearts harden in resentment.

And we will have forgotten about this part.  These quite, peaceful walks--and the World all to ourselves.  What a hidden gift these days are.  Yet we fail to see the gem. We wish these days away, looking ahead, longing for something else.  It is not til we look back, that we see what we have lost.

So now we embrace this day. We honor the quite space and celebrate in silence. Now we understand that it will not be so long that we long for this again...and so we wish away our days no longer.

  1. Oh Guinness! That is exactly how I feel. You are a wonderful poet. I think like you, whatever season it is, I think I like some other one better. But here we always get a long, hard winter, lots of deep snow, lots of storms, but this year is different, it feels like it never got started. March is always a stormy month, we will see what we get from March.

    Love and hugs,

    Jo, Stella and Zkhat
