Nurse Guinness

Oh Oh. It's Guinness. I get home from my walk and this calf is in the house. Old man winter won't go away. The little calf fell down and got way too cold.
Everyone knows I help with the calves each Spring. My human dad said it is really rare for a dog to help so much with the calves, remember? He said that is what makes me so special.

My human dad has to rub the calf for hours. I sit close by and help keep the little bull warm. I lick him and nuzzle him to try and make him come around.

Then my human mom takes a turn. She rubs him hard with a towel and uses her hairdryer to warm him up. It takes a long time and a lot of work.

My human dad makes a fire and puts the baby calf right over top of the heat duct. Finally the calf starts to shiver. That is a very good sign. That means his body temperature is coming back up, and the circulation is going back into his extremities!

The humans are tired and go for a nap while the calf lies on the heat duct. I stay with the calf the entire time. Later on, I go get the humans and wake them up. WOOF WOOF I say! The calf has his head up WOOF WOOF! GET UP GET UP GET UP! His ears are perky and his eyes are bright! WOOF WOOF!

The little calf made it! Now he is back with his mom in a cozy nursing pen. He drank some warm milk.

In the short video below you can see me helping and kissing the calf! And look at the sweet little bull! I think he is smiling in this picture--what do you think?

Green Eggs and Ham

Guinness here. Spring is coming. I know because the hens have started to lay their eggs! But something funny has happened. Ever since Groucho turned himself into a rooster that time...
We have been getting these strange GREEN EGGS!!!!!!!

I don't know what to make of it--I mean--look at these eggs. I go over to Groucho's house.

Sure enough, he is laying on them. He is trying to hatch his alien eggs. He is such a ham. Makes me kind of wonder....

Is this a case of GREEN EGGS and HAM?

Alien Antics

Guinness here. Last weekend Groucho texted me and said his humans were going to Halifax, so he was staying over night. Oh great. He came with a long list of requests--like jasmine herbal tea, and a big bowl of M&Ms--no red ones.

See him taking over the luxuries of home whilst Maggi and I rough it on the floor?

During the night I kept hearing all this "clicking" noise. I asked Groucho about it. He told me to mind my own business.

I check the camera-- look what I find. He was taking pictures of himself all night.

See? He was totally posing for the camera.

Actually, he was quite embarrassed when I asked him about it. He said he wanted a new profile picture for his Facebook account. Oh brother.

Look at him! haha.

What a crayon.

Well, over the years I have learned-- sometimes it is best to say nothing at all.

Groucho Fakes His Own Death and Other News

Hi! It's me-Guinness! Do you guys know I won 3rd prize in the Good ol' Boys category over at Mangominster?

It's true! But now the bad news --- I have to tell Groucho. He took it pretty hard when he did not win. Remember?

I decide to tell him when we are out for our walkie. Who knows what he will do. Gulp.

Ok... so here we go, now. First Groucho turns himself into a rooster. He goes into a mad frenzy.

Then he totally passes out cold. He is all about the drama. His human has to revive him with CPR. See? We bring him home to recover.

We finally make it back home and look! My prize has arrived from Jed and Abby all the way from Maryland in America! Me and Maggi got little lights to wear so we will show up at night--and on those thick, foggy Nova Scotia mornings! And look! I got a portable water bottle. Won't that be great for all our adventures and back country 'splorin?

And did you notice? I got an elephant stuffie. Everyone one knows I LOVE stuffies! Thank you so much Jed and Abby! We thought your gift was exceptional--very well thought out indeed! We sure do hope it was not too much trouble!

Best of all--I got these liver treats! I shared them with Groucho. He is starting to come around!

I remind Groucho that last year HE won 3rd place in Mangominster and he shared HIS prize with us--remember? So now I am doing the same for him. That seems to satisfy Groucho. He said he wasn't upset anymore, and that it didn't matter anyways because he will probably win next year. Gulp. I hope this year goes by really slow..... in fact, I hope that by next year Groucho forgets all about Mangominster.
Thanks again Jed and Abby--we are truely touched by your thoughtful gift! Love Guinness, Maggi and GrouchOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The Prince of Persia

Guinness here. I was just outside enjoying a quiet, peaceful walk when who shows up?

You guessed it....Beaky McFreaky. OK Groucho. You can come with us, but no funny stuff. I have had enough of your antics lately.

Well that was useless. He starts in right away.

There he goes. He runs off ahead in front of everyone. He plays this stupid game.

See? He "pretends" to get stuck in the snow. The humans think they have to yank him out.

He thinks it's funny but it is totally lame. See him faking it?

Then he jumps up and takes off running... laughing and cackling all the way.

Oh Brother. Now what. Groucho says he is playing "King of the Castle". But Groucho, there is no one playing with you...

Groucho says ALL his friends are playing with him but we can not see them. Ding Dong-- Ding Dong.

Well, there is one thing I HAVE learned over the years. There is only one Groucho, and we've got him. Til next time, love Guinness.
