Pollyanna

Hehehe. It's Guinness. Maggi is teaching me a new game. It is called the GLAD GAME. Have you heard of it? Well, you have to make a BAD thing or a SAD thing...or a MAD thing... turn into a GLAD thing.

Here is how it works. Maggi says everyone is complaining about the snow. So she has turned that into a GLAD thing. Look! See the snow banks? Maggi can walk this old road without her leash!

See how happy she is. She loves it. She feels so confident and proud. She maps out the width of the road and feels the huge snow banks on either side!

She feels the slope of the snow bank when they first start to taper. See how she kind of walks with her wrists first? That is how she does it. She can also feel bits of gravel that the snow plow kicked up near the edge of the road.

So she can walk right along the rim and feel her way. She can also hear me, and she hears the humans too. They keep a very close eye on Maggi. They do NOT want her to lose her confidence. She gets lots of cues.

If Maggi miscalculates, she just runs up the soft snowbank a little ways like this... then she corrects herself.

Now she can go back and forth between the snowbanks. She knows they are there! She loves being able to go at her own pace. She loves to stop and take time to smell all the interesting smells! Hmmm..I wonder what she smells back there--hehehe--oops!

Maggi is thriving and she is finally getting to do all the things that normal dogs get to do.

...and that is something to be very GLAD about, don't you think?

  1. She is like one of those robot vacuum cleaners. Hehehe. Of course knowing you are close likely inspires her confidence.

  4. Well, you know we don't have to be convinced to be glad about snow - but it is wonderful to see how fun it is for Maggi to learn to get around in the snow and still be safe. You are all doing a great job with her.

  13. I love to see dogs do this kind of thing. No whining, no crybaby stuff, just charge along and do the best you can and then feel proud of yourself. Very inspirational!

  17. A glad time for Maggi, who finally has the forever home she deserves. And a glad time for Guinness, who has a new sissy AND a placement in the Mango Minster Good Ol' Dogs category! Congratulations, Guinness! We're the sponsors for your placement level, so we'll be in touch once Mango Momma gives the marching orders to discuss your award.
