Trees and Tricks!

Guinness here. I want to show you something.

This is a Pine Tree. See how the needles are LONG?

Well, when you LONG for something, you PINE for it. So that is a good trick to remember the pine tree.

And this is a FIR tree! See how the needles are FLAT? FLAT and FIR both start with 'F'. And that is how you remember the fir tree!

And this is a Spruce tree! At first it is hard to tell it apart from the Fir tree.

But look close. The needles go all the way around the branch. They don't lie flat and smooth. See? I do not have a good trick to remember the Spruce tree--maybe you can think of one?

Can you tell what these two trees are? If you said Pine and Spruce then you are right!

And all these trees produce CONES so they are CONIFEROUS trees! And they all have needles and not leaves--so they are SOFTWOOD trees!

Now, there is just one more kind of tree you need to know about....

................................................The Charlie Brown tree!

InDOGnito

Guiness here. Where? Where did I go. Ha ha. Hey...do you have an old standby favorite video you go to when you need a pick me up? Well, my human loves Liam the singing Wolfhound. She laughs everytime especially when the Irish music starts she goes crackers and dances around like a leprachaun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ckkc9fWZAgw

and look who else I found. It is a crappy video, but it is Saige, so not so crappy at all, if you ignore the humans. Have a good weekend everyone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UYghFoZWdc

When Old Wives Tales are True

Guinness here. Uh oh.

Remember a few posts back?

My human dad said the snow will come when the swamps are all full?

Don't you hate it when your parents are right?

Farm Fact or Farm Fiction?

Oh hi, it's just Guinness here. My dad has an old farm expression that says the snow won't come til the swamps are all full.

So he means that the snow won't stick around until all the little ponds, and all the little streams and brooks are full, and the ground is saturated with water.

GACK! LOOK! Do you recognize this place? It is one of our cow pastures. See the pole behind me?

See where the river is SUPPOSE to be? See the pole?

And all our pasture has turned into a Lake. Good thing the cows are in the barn and not out to pasture. One year this happened and all the cows got stuck on one little tuft sticking out! haha!

So I don't know what you may think, but I'M betting on snow pretty soon!

Saige Spots

Hey It is Guinness. I have been visiting all our old favorite spots! Sometimes it is hard to go it alone...

But here is a different kind of spot! See my backside? When Saige died I lost all these patches of hair from stress. And now they are growing in--THE SAME COLOR AS SAIGE!

The Vet Had a long technical name for my condition....

...But I just call them my Saige Spots! So she comes with me where ever I go...

Guinness here just handing out treats. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK! HA! Look at this. Some one came dressed up like Groucho. That has been the most popular costume this year!

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. See look! Here is another Groucho costume. The little guy is getting quite popular I must admit!

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. Hmmm.... Well I just can't believe it! This is about the 20th Groucho costume I have seen tonight. Groucho is going to be THRILLED when I tell him about this.

Hehehe!! Groucho here. I FINALLY got one on Guinness! And... I got ALL the candy. Happy Halloweenies!
